Fine lines and wrinkles set in around the mouth, eyes, and forehead due to a combination of factors related to skin elasticity, thickness and damage, as well as from repetitive facial muscle contractions, such as smiling or squinting.
To combat frown lines, crow's feet, and other facial wrinkles, One Agora Integrative Health offers Botox® and Dysport® injections. Both injections are forms of botulinum toxin type A, neurological depressants which work to block nerve impulses that control facial muscles, temporarily paralyzing the muscles as a result. The reduced movement and increased muscle relaxation help treat moderate to severe lines between the eyebrows.
Despite their similarities, there are important differences between Botox® and Dysport®, most of which pertain to their dosage. Dysport® is more diluted than Botox® and tends to diffuse more quickly. It contains smaller molecules which means that it can treat larger muscle areas but may require more units than Botox®. On the other hand, Botox's® low diffusion rate makes it very effective in treating smaller areas that require more precision.
The effects of both Botox® and Dysport® are temporary. It typically takes 2-14 days to see the results and results last 3-4 months. Downtime is minimal, and the most common side effects are temporary redness, swelling, bruising, and headaches.
While Botox® and Dysport® work well to combat fine lines and wrinkles which affect the upper one-third of the face, facial aging is not contained to one area. To address facial aging related to volume loss in the skin, as well as fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, One Agora Integrative Health offers several different dermal fillers, including Restylane® and Juvederm®. These hyaluronic fillers work to restore volume, reduce fine lines, and augment areas of the face, such as the lips and cheeks.

Like botulinum toxin injections, dermal fillers are not permanent. Depending on which product is recommended, results will last 6-24 months. There can be some significant downtime depending on which area is treated. We recommend that you do not plan any special events 2-3 weeks after injection.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is an innovative, non-surgical treatment which uses your body's growth factors, called platelets, to promote healing. The treatment requires a blood draw; blood is spun in a centrifuge to isolate and concentrate your platelets. The platelets are then injected into the treatment area to promote tissue regeneration and new collagen growth.
While PRP has several applications in cosmetic, orthopaedic, and sexual medicine, One Agora Integrative Health leverages the healing abilities of PRP to address several different concerns, including:
PRP uses growth factors in platelets to stimulate cell replication, promote formation of new growth factors, and stimulate proliferation of cells.
PRP is completed in the comfort of our Bloomington office and requires 60-90 minutes (due to the blood draw). Some patients will require multiple treatments over the course of several weeks to achieve their desired results. Redness, swelling and heat at the injection site can occur but typically dissipate over the 24-48 hours following treatment. Platelet-rich plasma alone can help you achieve amazing results; many times, we combine the use of PRP with other treatments for optimal results.
